In category 8 alternative storytelling is awarded. What is meant by this? Ordinary stories have a continuous text and are often provided with a picture. They are certainly the most common form of article in print and online. For complex topics that need to be presented clearly, there is the alternative story form. Here, text blocks are often arranged around a central image. The topic is thus divided into clearly arranged pieces. Depending on the complexity, the blocks can also be provided with numbers. Then it even becomes a list. Alternative story forms can also be provided with several pictures or infographics. Then a visual storytelling gradually emerges from this. Visual Storytelling is a separate category in the European Newspaper Award.

The flags show from which countries the award-winning works in this category come. We show only a selection here.
